The first barrier to all-inclusive virtual reality is the incorporation of the human body with conscious experience. There is no “reality” if there is no physical sensation to experiences within an artificial universe. How we get there is the first question, and how we stay there for a controlled period of time is the final question. We will see that the final question is not so simple when we realize that creating an artificial universe with every possible physical sensation is not something we will use external machines and vibrating controllers to accomplish; rather we will soon have to utilize the complexity of human biology in coordination with technology and cocktails of both endogenous and exogenous psychoactive chemicals.
